I have natural free range pellets which I will feed in the morning and I have super mix corn for the afternoon which should be fed ad lib! this contains the grit

I was just wondering how much you feed per bird af each kind of food ^ and how much water they tend to drink daily.

If your chickens are free ranged, they shouldn't need grit. A full size chicken will eat about a third of a pound of food per day. Again, a free ranged chicken will get most of its food from the yard. In the warmer weather the only other thing you need to feed is either lay pellets or crumbles. I say this if your chickens are free ranged in a grass covered yard, is it is just bare ground, a scarch of some type will add to thier deit.

They should have access to food at all times, preferably a balanced chicken food to meet all their nutrient requirements. Whole grains are lower in protein and should be fed as a treat, not part of the diet. Although when they free range they are likely getting good protein from the bugs.

Keep food in the coop all the time, treats outside in the run or if running lose in the yard. Letting them free range is best but not everybody can do this. If they start wasteing just raise the feeder and cut back on amount entill theres little or none outside of the feeder.
