How many pounds of food should 24, 6 week old chicks be eating?

Well I'm not really sure, but I'm gessing however much they need!!!!
I just let mine free feed and give soooooome treats (not too much,
cause I don't want them to get spoiled

We have 40 at 6 weeks tomorrow and they are eating about 8 lbs a day. I'm not sure if that what the are supposed to be eating but that what they are eating... They have only been going into the run for 2 days now. Some still haven't been out yet.. I was hoping that would slow them down a bit.

Thank you for the replys. I am feeding 3 lbs a day and they act like they are starving. I will try and free feed and see how much they eat. Just didn't want to waste food by giving them to much. Onca again thank you both.

Adult layers eat 1/3 lb of food per day, just to give you an example. Younger birds eat a lot of food for their size, because they are putting on so much weight as they grow. They need to fuel their growth, as well as maintain their bodies. I free feed my chickens, especially while they are growing.
