How much grit?

I have 5 young chickens and they of course pick around on the ground eating whatever is there. I've read that a pound per 100 chickens per week. I'm sure I don't need to give them that much. Any input appreciated.

I would just put some in a little bowl by their food and let them take what they need that way.

That's what I do, too. I offer grit free choice in a cup; when I notice the cup is getting empty, I just add some more.
