I noticed some bloody poops in the brooder a couple of days ago. I have 5 chicks that are 7 weeks old, and have been on medicated chick starter from day one (first MannaPro, then switched to Purina). I immediately dismissed the bloody poop as shed intestinal lining. But yesterday and this morning, I noticed quite a bit of it. It seems like each chick is now shedding it, and has been for the past few days.
They have been a bit less active and a little fussy, but I attributed it to the heat and the fact that they're growing and their brooder isn't getting any bigger. They are eating and drinking regularly. They have had one outing where they found a worm, played with it, and eventually someone ate it.
So, how much shed intestinal lining is normal, and when should I be concerned?
Thank you for your help!
