how much jumping can a chicken do safely?

It might sound strange but I realized as I looked around my converted camper coop tonite that the chickens have to jump- a lot. They go up and down a ladder with great floppy, dangerous-looking hops. They angle and jump onto a counter and then hop straight up into an overhead bin that is now without it's doors. Is this safe? Is it normal? Do I need to build little ramps with steps for each level change? I'd be glad to do it, but I'm curious if the chickens are jumping so much because they have to or because the like to. Any insight is appreciated.

They should be fine. The main thing to watch out for is having heavy-bodied large chickens hopping down more than 3' or so, but it doesn't sound like you've got that going on.
