Hello! I'm brand new to the chicken hobby and I need some advise. I will be getting 13 chickens in October and I will be building my own coop. I'm thinking 13 feet by 4 feet would give them enough room. Can you tell me if I am correct?

Yes, that size should provide them with plenty of room. You generally want each chicken to have 4 square feet of space each.

That's just big enough for 13 chickens. Four square feet of floor area per bird (which is what you will have) is the minimum recommended amount for chickens, but more is better. Overcrowding can quickly lead to aggression, fights, biting and feather plucking, and even cannibalism. Are you planning on free ranging them or keeping them in an enclosed run. If you are going with a run, 10 sq. ft. of ground area per bird is the minimum recommended amount; again more is better. Good luck with your flock.
