So I'm impatiently awaiting my first (ever..new to chickens)order of day old chicks later this month. 12 assorted. .cochins, bielefelders, Orpingtons, brahmas, Faverolles..all sexed pullets. I couldn't pick just a couple. They look so beautiful.
We're working on the coop and have all the brooder items. I picked up a 5lb bag of chick starter, but I'd rather order a big bulk bag. I know the bielefelders will eat double, so I'm wondering if a 25 lb bag would be enough to get them thru the first 4-6 weeks before I have to switch them over? Or would 25 lbs be excessive?

I'd buy the 25. Don't wast your money on small bags. Don't throw any away, just keep feeding it til it's gone, or mix it with any new feed.

They will eat a lot more than you'd think, anyway.
