I have raised 25 cotunix quail that are almost full grown now. The first quail I have ever had. I have been feeding them free choise all the feed they want. I'm looking to cut back. So when I get them set up in laying pins with a cock and four to five hens in each pin. How much game bird feed do I give each pin for good egg production?

Feed them all the time. If you feed them this morning and you come back at noon and they are out, feed them again!!

Hope this helps!!

That's why you are running out...they only need to be fed once. I feed them once and that is it. Every other morning, each pen gets a cup of mealworms with their feed. I finished my November Newsletter on mealworms. It's on my website under the newsletter tabby

The mealworms will save you feed costs and provide great nutrition on your adults. The more you feed the birds, the more gets wasted and the more they poop. They do not need to eat all day, just make sure they have fresh water all day, that's it. Feed once, water all day...works a charm

Mine have free choice feed and I have very little problems with wasting. I give my 25 adults about 3 lbs. of feed every 2 days and they do fine with that. I just fill their feeders and refill when they are empty.

If you are having problems with wasting you need to get a different feeder. Mine have chick feeders, either the long flat ones or the round base without the jar.

The cage cups that come with the aviary cages is what I use. I also use dog bowls. I fill up a chihuaha size dish for 3 Adult Quail.

For Max. egg production keep feed & water in front of them 24/7 if they are wasting feed its the type of feeder not because you have it in front of them to much.

All my quail have unlimited feed.

Then again, now that I think about it, most of the critters around here have unlimited feed. The dog is an exception. She was getting too fat.
