Good morning and welcome to BYC!
We had a family matter come up in January and had to go out of state for 2 1/2 weeks. While we were gone, we paid a friend $10 per day to come over twice a day (morning and late afternoon) to take care of our chickens, 4 meat rabbits and 2 goats. We also gave him the use of our truck since he was having vehicle issues. He did such a great job looking after everything, we gave him a little bonus money in addition to the amount we had all agreed to. It worked out well for all of us. And he liked our truck so much, he ended up buying it.
There aren't many people I would feel comfortable with taking care of our animals but this person has had years of experience with his own so I knew he would treat them right. He had a lot of fun teasing me about my spoiled chickens because I think of them as pets!
Who ever you get to take care of your birds, make sure they know your routine (a daily chore check list helps), where the 1st aid kit is, how to reach you, and who to use as a back-up in case they need help (and the back-up needs to know everything too). We also made sure there was plenty of feed for all the animals on hand so he wouldn't need to worry about running low on anything.
Hope that helps.
