How much was your coop to build?

This summer I built a 12' x 16' half storage/half coop with electricity/lights for about $1900. The coop side is insulated w/ R 19. One of these days I'll post the photos of the "masterpiece".

mine cost about 125$ to builds, mainly because I decided to insulate it.
Here's the post with pictures

I scavenged almost everything, doors, windows, roof shingles around the bottom. The cost came from 2 X 4's, insulation and the metal roofing. The hardware cloth was scavenged from a friend who had some left over. I suspect it would have added 80$ if I had had to buy it.
It's 7 X 7 and the run is 25 x 10

well...right now we have about $50 in it. It's an 8X8. It has everything but the roof. We bought a kit for 37$ off ebay and have scavenged and saved wood from different things. We have only had to by the 2x2's. I'm really excited that it's almost ready. We'll put them in it before we paint it. I don't know when we will get around to painting it. It's just as cute as it can be.

BTW, my DH gauges the success of a project not on the finished work, no, but on the quantity of power tools he gets to invest in because I am totally at his mercy. Sigh.

Oh, I so empathize! We have a big compressor because dh said it would be the same cost to buy the compressor and tools to fix the car, as it would to have the car fixed by a pro (of course a pro would have finished te job in a day instead of three-four weeks). He just bought an air hammer for his mom's car repair, etc, etc.

But who am I to complain. I just bought an air-powered stapler/nailer for attaching fencing. I'm thinking of all the coops/runs I can build with the phalanx of tools at my disposal now. *evil laugh*

That's me exactly! I thought around $500 should do it using scrap lumber, but I had a builder friend help and he kept finding reasons for more store-bought lumber and a mother who kept making suggestions so things would look good. So I have a cute, snug 10x12 building and a pile of unused pallet lumber. I know I have $1000 in building materials (windows were free). Now the 10x12 run I did manage to do out of lots of scraps, a donated roll of chicken wire, and just one store-bought roll of fencing and a couple fenceposts. Then there was that full list of food, feeders, and such to get at full retail cost.

Now my problem is I'd like more space for some more standard breed layers. And I haven't had my first 5 chickens at home for even 2 full weeks yet -- and I'm getting 3 more tonight. LOL
