How much would you pay for this Coop?

We're thinking of thinning out the group again and maybe getting rid of the little coop we build last year.

we built it completely out of recycled/free materials But it is extremely sturdy and predator safe. it's very cute also.

the roof needs to be tidied up and new paint put on but other than that its all ready to go. it has good ventelation (slat siding), even without a window. it's 4'x4' and 4' in the front and 3' in the back.

the floor is made of smooth 1" thick plywood, very predator safe...we actually had to stand on it to snug it in before screwing it down. the framing is pretty darn sturdy for such a small coop too.

it sports 1 wide nest box, 2 roosts, a run door and cleaning door on one whole side, very easily accessible and predator safe! it can also easily be lifted by 2 strong guys. very weather proof, no leaks at all over winter!

So how much do you think its worth? we have it online for offers but i think it'd be better to put down a firm price.

Also, i was thinking of adding a window on the front, do you think it'd be a good idea? make it a little more desireable to possble buyers??

I am Seriously thinking about cutting out and framing in a little chicken wire window on the upper-ish left hand side of the front. i think the wire will give it a more cutie, counrty feeling.

i think it will make it a lot cuter too

but how much would you pay for it? lol. i have had so many people ask but i have no idea what to ask for it. I've never sold a coop before.

i have seen TONS of little tractors and stuff on craigslist but they are CRAZY expensive, overpriced in my opinion. especially for the size.

Around here coops are hard to come by and they go quickly when they turn up on craigslist if priced fairly. The ones for more than $400 just sit there day after day. From what I have seen around here, I would suggest trying $200 or a bit more. You can always add "or best offer" or lower your price later if it is too high.

If you figure most homemade coops cost at least $200 for materials, it is more than fair if it is nice and sturdy.

Good luck.

I'd say if you're posting it on CL, say 300 NEG. People will probably pay 250 no problem if its got a fresh coat of paint and I do suggest a window.

I agree. Some people might want to pay less because, although VERY well built, it could use some paint. I would pay $200 for it if I lived closer to you, because I can see the craftsmanship.

Don't bother adding anything to it, it's just spending money/time you could use somewhere else. Question: Is "Hobbyfarming/chicken raising" getting popular where you live? If so, then don't add obo. I know that California home sales were bidding wars until the slump. Could be you might have a bidding war for your coop. Then, you could spend the money showing your chickies a good time.

I agree about the new paint, too. (It'll also bring more money!)
If you're short of cash & have no exterior paint handy, the best places to look are Lowes' paint department in the mess-up section. (Our Home Depot has one, too, that is at the exit by the Lumber check out. A gallon usually runs about $5 here). Another place that usually has great paint clearances is Sears, surprisingly. I've gotten pint cans for 97 cents.

Good Luck!

I think i will get some paint to throw on it then, i am just going to sand off the flaky stuff so i'll have a nice clean surface. I have a gallon of white barn paint sitting here and i will probably pick up another color out of the reject paint at wal-mart or lowes.

i will probably put a little 'jailhouse' window in too, right in front of the roosts

it will only take me a few minutes, i probably wont have to frame inside since it'll have trim/framing on the outside like the run door does.

Thanks for the opinions everyone, i was thinking around $200 also. and yes, hobby farming is getting big around here, we just sold a nice family a whole 'farm animal starter kit' a couple months back, haha.

1 goat plus lots of chicks and ducklings.
