Today I decided that Angel and Avalon, my White Rock and Silver Spangled Hamburg needed baths due to unattractively dingy white feathers. Angel's bath was uneventful until I put her down, dripping wet, into the enclosure. Her first move was directly to the dirt-filled dustbathing hole created by our chickens and ducks combined, where she proceeded to roll in the soil. You can imagine.

So I continued on and washed Avalon. Afterwards, this is what I found, much to my dismay.

UGH!!!!!

Two more baths didn't help, in fact, she looked worse! The cage was to prevent any further dirt episodes, which sorely ruined my work (Angel... AHEM?!?!)

On the other hand, I am pleased to report that Avalon looks and smells positively lovely (as usual) after her bath!
Moral of the story, NEVER wash your white birds Alexandra33 style, because as you can see, bad things happen.

So I now have a very nice-smelling but dirty White Rock!

Angel looks like an "Angelo" in the third picture! If she wasn't laying already, I'd start to wonder about her...

Too funny! Its like when you give your dog a bath, and they aren't dry yet. The ALWAYS seem to find a dirt pile to roll in!

Her lovely brown eggs prove that she's not a roo,

You should post your dirty Angel pictures under "What Breed or Gender is This?" The responses would be hilarious!

Funny story! I can say that because I'm not the one that washed her, lol. Her breed? She's a dirty bird!

(Your little Silver Spangled Hamburg is gorgeous.)

Yep, she's a Dirty Rock, all right! Thank goodness she picked all the dirt chunks out of her feathers and looks quite a bit better now, but she's still dingy.

Oh, and thank you for complementing on Avalon. She's my pride and joy.
