how often do i feed? Dazed and confused?

I have a question that I'm sure will definitely confirm my new to chickens skills! My neighbor told my wife today that feeding my flock to much/often will prevent them from producing eggs? Part of me believes her because she has a small farm,mainly horses and chickens . But I've also read on here as well as other sites to keep there food plentiful and they will eat when their hungry? We also give them treats here and there. So am I decreasing my chances for eggs? They did not start laying yet so I really have no basis other than what she said. Thx for all opinions and insight that will come

All commercial laying houses and many fanciers provide feed available at all times. Really fat chickens might have trouble laying, but full feeding does not limit egg production.

Thanks,I didn't think we were harming them or decreasing are chances for eggs,Im no chicken expert and I may be wrong but kinda thought when they were full they were full!! Thx again
