Several of my Silkie hens are setting & several others are laying in the same nests. When the layers are done, the broodies pull their eggs into their nests. I need to gather the eggs & store them for a weekly set in the incubator, but if they've already started to develop from a few hours under the broodies, I would assume that cooling & storing them will kill the embryo. So.....
How many times a day do I need to gather eggs from under the broodies to be sure that the eggs haven't already started to develop? In other words, how many hours of brooding does it take for an embryo to start perking?
Does the same hold true during hot weather for eggs in the nest without a broodie setting on them? Is once daily gathering okay in temps of 80's or 90's or should it be more often?
Thanks for any help or advice.
