Scrambled eggs are pretty healthy as far as treats go, so time to time is good.THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE!!! I will start reducing the scratch and meal worms, leaving the oyster shells out and giving primarily the crumbles. What about scrambled eggs? Should I give them regularly or just from time to time?
Look at their vent. If it's tight and dryish, they're not layingI would give them a little more recovery time. They are good looking chickens and you are getting very close to two eggs a week, if all are contributing. Less than two eggs a week would mean somebody is going to chicken heaven soon at my farm. Sure would be nice if somebody could explain a sure fire way to find out if a hen is laying or not.
I'm so new I don't even know exactly what their vent looks like. Thanks for the info. I'm off to google that now!!!Look at their vent. If it's tight and dryish, they're not laying
I've only had them like three weeks to the day. They have been through a lot between the relocation, illness and treatment, cold snap, etc. I notice that even though their poop seems normal, they often have a poopy butt. Can't find any sign of worms or blood. I'm just complete baffled from it all!how long have you had these chickens? If it's only been a couple weeks, give them more time to settle in and recover. The cold snap didn't help, we got less eggs during the cold snap. We're back up to almost an egg from each hen per day. Mine "free range" the fenced in backyard and they hardly eat their layer pellets with all the plants and bugs they get right now. Winter they ate heavily from the pellets. They always have oyster shell available. Scratch (only a couple handfuls for 11 chickens) is reserved for the evenings to get them back in the run,
Here's how @mertzee :I'm so new I don't even know exactly what their vent looks like. Thanks for the info. I'm off to google that now!!!
thank you for the tip, I will work on becoming proficient in vent condition, if that is a thing.Look at their vent. If it's tight and dryish, they're not laying
