how old are rouens when they have there first molt

I know nothing, really, but my Runners molted in late Summer, and then again in Late Fall. The Summer molt made me wonder how people manage to show their ducks in top condition at the Fall county fairs. Though my duck molts seem nothing like the chicken molts. There were feathers all over the yard, but they just seemed to be making way for new pristine colored feathers (rather than the chickens who look like they've been attacked or on death's door

).
