I have three-day-old silver fox kits and I have a neighbor with a mentally disabled daughter. The daughter in general has a gentle disposition and has fair motor skills in her hands so I'm not concerned about her hurting the kit if she held it for a little while. I think she would get a kick out of petting a baby rabbit so I'm just wondering how old the kits should be before they can stand being out of the nest for 20 minutes or so.

Not going to lie, I saw "silver fox kits" and was wondering where you got baby foxes :lau

Rabbit kits start leaving the nest naturally at around 3ish weeks. There's nothing wrong with handling them a little inside the nest though I'd at the very least wait till their eyes are open to move them outside of the nest just for a bit. Plus you don't want them to get cold. If you don't mind waiting till they're a little older it'd likely be best though if you notice the kits starting to meander around it'd likely be fine for a short burst.
