How old does this silkie hen look to you ?

She looks older to me, as in could lay eggs anytime (but I am guessing). By the way, silkies can take quite awhile to begin laying. You might have to wait until she is 6-8 months old.

They then go broody.

How can I discourage her from going broody? Anyone know? Guess I should get to know because I also have opringotns and I have heard they go broody as well.

In my limited experience trying to keep a silkie from going broody is like trying to keep the sun from rising.

broodies are not that bad though they wont lay while broody. just get some fake eggs and when someone goes broody just put those under her for 21 days making sure to collect all laid eggs from under here asap

I'd say she was approx 16 weeks, as I have some silkies around the same age and they look very similar.... bar the lack of foot feathers!
