how old is a silkie when she begins to lay

cochins and silkies are slow to lay. I had both and mine never started until they were 8-9 months old sometimes longer

LF cochins I believe start earlier. And they may start earlier if they are hatchery stock vs from a breeder. I found this to be true with my own.

6-8-10 months, in that range, for silkies anyways, I believe 5-7 moths for Cochins, as long as you put them on layer feed at 16 weeks, should be close.

My Silkies and Cochins, smooth and Frizzle all usually started laying at about six months.

frizzlesrule, you are VERY lucky! Mine are 8 months and ahve not started yet and never do. I have had several batches. They are on layer starting at 5 months old and still wait around LOL
