I stand back and try to figure out if I've made enough, or too much, and wonder..........how old is some of the stuff that you guys have stored in your cellars?? I know most items are used up in a year, but not necessarily true in some instances.....so what do you have that is stored/canned and over a year old??

My oldest jar/canned item is peach jam that I made in '04. Slightly duller in color but still yummy.

Anyone else????

I would be interested also .. I know people who have eaten canned goods YEARS later!

I try to use everything up within a year. My in-laws, however, will eat things that were canned 7 or 8 years ago. They've never gotten sick from anything that old, but it still makes me nervous.

When I went to my grandpas house a while ago he had sliced peaches canned in clear jars. They were all brown and gross looking, when I asked him he said they were bout 20 years old

My mother-in-law has goods that are around 40 years old!

I have 2 pints of pickled beets that my grandmother made. She made them about 18 years ago and she has since passed and taken her recipe with her

I just opened one this week and took a good sniff (still good I think) and then dumped it. I copied it best I could from the smell of her spices, etc.

Wish I would have paid alot more attention when I was young to grandma - there was nothing she couldn't can, cure or butcher!
