How old till they stop laying

My hubby asked me this and I didn't know so thought I'd ask all of you. I have 15 buff orpingtons. I know they start to lay when they are around 6 months old, just was wondering how old they are when they stop. What does everyone do with theirs after laying age?

I know someone that has some nine year old banty hens and they still get about 4 eggs a week out of 7 or 8 hens!!
