I have 12 4-5 week chicks that are finally out in the coop. I do have a lamp for the night times lows. When i opened the human door to feed and water them today, they immediately jumped down (~2ft) onto the ground and went nuts. They obviously want out. They have only been in the coop for 2 days, after they are convinvced it is home, when can I let them out and know that they will come back? I would not let them range by themselves at this point, but I also don't want to be chasing 12 chicks around the yard to get them back in!

Set them in a hoop type little free range enclosure that way you have the control, and can get them back to the safety of the coop easily.
