When do you start to introduce grit or oyster shells to your chicks?

Grit and oyster shell have different purposes.
Grant is used in the gizzard of the bird to help them grind up their food. If your chicks are eating anything but formulated feed, they should have access to grit. Not put into their food, but perhaps sprinkled around their pen or a small cup of it off to the side.
Oyster shell is used to provide calcium for laying birds. Once your birds are of laying eggs, a small dish of it in their pen is all they need.

Regular dirt has adequate grit.
