We're building an enclosure with a coop, yard, and a run. On the yard and coop we're planting red clover for cover as it's going to be bottomless(don't worry, no predators in our area.) and in the coop we might impliment a deep litter idea. I don't know enough about the deep litter though, like what essentially is it? And would we need to somehow clean the yard and run or let it decompose naturally?

I'm not sure if the deep litter method is appropriate for quail but you will need an antil dig apron around the outside of your area. You likely have predators you aren't aware of.

I do a deep bedding method with my quail and basically add a layer of bedding when it starts to stink/look messy. A few times a year I use a shovel and 5 gallon buckets to clear out the built up bedding and put it in a pile to use as compost/mulch.
