how to count day one

I set my eggs yesterday at 1:30 pm so do i count tht as day one or today as day one just wanna be sure so to know for day18 lockdown

I always count the day after I set my eggs as day 1.

However I have been late and early to lockdown and had 72-78% hatches- so don't sweat it too bad.

I know right??? OMG My silkie momma laid her eggs sat on them and hatched them all by herself without issue........everysingle one hatched too!!! **Sigh** There are so many different -----opinions on what the correct humidity and temp should be

so i dunno what to believe

temp inside bator is 99 5 and the humidity varies from 42-44% am i good or is tht bad

Okay! Here it is. We use the numbers as a guide line. Get as perfect as possible. Then........Things start to happen. Ups, downs, hundreds of things can go wrong. And yet, we get fuzzies. Maybe not as many as we hoped. But at times, Many more than we diserve. The blessing of any at all helps me atleast to try again, and again.
If you count one way or another, your babys can and sometimes do go until day 23-25. ect.
Expect only one thing as constant. We simply put, TRY our very best to mimic what a hen already invented. And they don't get it right some of the time either.
But as a guide line for me, the day I load the bator I do it before noon. Day 1. I candle on day 7, and again on day 14. Day 18 lock down,popcorn, comfie perch, camera and phone. I haven't had a 100% hatch rate this year but it is my goal. Until then, I practice my math skills, hatch again.

Sorry to hijack but what is the longest you can leave an egg before it's time to give up? My silkie has been sitting for 23 days on someone else's eggs, is it time to throw them away or wait another couple of days?
