How to deal with ants

In the chicken coop, a huge group of ants swarm the nesting boxes, water, and pine shavings. There's also a heavy line of ants that go all over the place. There are ants everywhere. How should I deal with them?

Chalk, cinnamon, basil, tansy, mint, lavender and garlic are all known to be ant repellers.
