I want to deep clean the coop before winter but this is my first winter with the chickens they are six months old

Thanks to all help

Well, I would remove every bit of bedding in the coop. Scrape all the poo off of the roosts, if you have a shop vac you could vacuum every nook and cranny, getting dust, spiderwebs and such. Then I would sprinkle around some poultry dust. Wash all the feeders and waterers with soap and water, replace the bedding with pine shavings or chopped straw, or both.

A lot of people use a mixture of vinegar and water to detox their coops. Wash everything inside and out with the mixture. We've done the vinegar/water mix and have also cleaned out areas with the most poop with a weak bleach water mix. Let everything dry well!!! before letting the chickies back in.

Are you doing the deep litter method? I suggest you do over winter. This way you only *need* to do a deep clean once or twice a year.

Well, no matter. I wouldn't soak the wood with the mixture and let it sit.... scrape off all the dried poop you can, and then wet and scrub down. Let air dry before letting the girl back in.
