Hi, any advice would be much appreciated. Its my first year to breed my own pheasants. My melanistic birds have started to lay but although I check their pen 2 or 3 times a day I've found the remnants of eggs when I get back on my next round. I've provided cover, added a hanging cabbage for stimulation and they're eating formulated game bird breeder feed with whole wheat. I'm not sure what else to do. I'd rather not to have to buy eggs when I have a breeding flock. Many thanks for your help.

Do they have enough space, and have you provided secluded places where they can lay?
Space could be an issue. The pen that the melansistics are in is 12ft x12ft but there is only 5 birds in it. I've cut evergreen branches and placed them in the corners for cover.

I was given a free pheasant hen because she was an egg eater. You could try collecting the eggs as soon as they're laid to prevent the chance of egg eating.
The pen is 4km from my home. I visit 2-3 times a day and they still beat me to it.

A little small for 5 ringnecks.ive tried cutting the top desk until you get a trickle of blood. It will grow back just like your fingernail does.Ive heard of loading an egg with tobassco, but I've never tried it.Do you know if its 1 bird eating?First you need to find the culprit and separate he/she from the flock.
In N.H.,Tony.
