We would like to get our hens to hatch their own eggs. is there a way to do this? Do I let they accumulate a clutch of eggs? is there a particular time of year to begin this? and last question...if they don't sit on their eggs and go broody, how long should I leave them in the nests and since it is winter her in North Geogia and maintains a pretty cool temperature, the eggs would still be able to be eaten for up to a couple weeks?

A hen can go broody with one or 10 eggs.

The number of eggs doesn't trip the hormones to go broody, either they do or the don't.

If there were a way to make them grow broody, I'll bet we would have heard about it... I've never heard about it.

Best way is to get a broody hen is with a broody breed,

Silkies, Buff Orpington, Partridge Rocks, Cochins, Brahmas... etc...

Well poo. So I might just as well pick up the eggs. Our hens are doing a really good job laying lots. How is it in Arizona? We have a good friend lives in Florence.
