Hello All,

My one year old Road Island Red will not lay eggs with shells. She only lays the rubber eggs. She has a great quality layer feed and she can eat oyster shells whenever she would like. She is the only one that has this problem. She always layed shells before so I have no idea why this is happening. She has had a postulated vent a few months ago but this started way before that incident. She is let out to free-range every day. She has a featherless butt but this is getting better. The other Road Island Red has a bare butt as well and lays perfectly normal eggs. I hope there is a solution for this.

Something in her egg laying system has gone awry. How long has she been laying?

Shes been laying since last August. She has been laying rubber eggs since the end of febuary begging of march. Her postulated vent happened on March 24, 2015. There has been no problems with her vent since then. Is there any way to fix this issue?

I would think its something with the hen and not the feed. Calcium might make a harder vs softer shell but no shell at all seems biological to me.
