I have just acquired 5 new hens Rhode Island my other ones would never sit. There is one who does sit and the Rooster seems to sit as well. I am very curious to know how long do they have to sit on the eggs before they hatch? Do they have to sit the entire day besides eating of course for the eggs to hatch? Can I candle a brown egg to see if they are growing or will the chicken then not sit anymore if I touch them? Seriously we are very new to this but would like to have our own babies any advice would be helpful.
