How to get ordinance changed?

Thanks y'all. I know chickens or ducks probably wouldn't make much of a dent in our mosquito population, but I'm hoping they'd at least help with ticks and other insects that would eat our garden. This past summer wasn't quite as bad since I kept the kids out of the woods, but our first summer here, we pulled so many ticks off of them it was ridiculous. Bug spray didn't make much of a difference either. Would chickens happen to eat chiggers, too, or are they too small to be seen? And I've been trying to find a zoning map online and haven't been able to find one. Is that something I'd need to request from the zoning administrator?

Contact your local property appraiser office. My local office has a guy who specifically deals in agricultural zoning. S/he should also be able to provide you with the requirements for making something agricultural. Every county has a different qualifier, example so many cattle per acre.

Thank you! I'll keep y'all updated. Just in the little bit of research I've done so far, it does appear that chickens and ducks both help to control mosquitoes. I just don't know how many we'd have to get in order to see a difference.

Sorry, I'm just now replying. We're still researching to see if there's anything we can do. Unfortunately, one of our neighbors isn't on speaking terms with us. Long story. We've tried to make amends with him and he refuses to acknowledge us. His wife is still friendly, but I doubt he'd allow her to sign anything that would benefit us. My husband did email the zoning administrator and the response he got said that the subject has been met with a lot of opposition to chickens in residential areas. I'm not sure what to do from here. I'm not giving up just yet, though.
i am dealing with the same thing i am allowed to only have 6 chicks but no roosters how am i going to keep my flock going with limited ablility for growth and no way to produce since i am going to be using them for food purposes and not for pets i dont understand i have email the mayor just now i dont know how well that will go through or even if i will get a answer back so let me know what you find out i am in a lagrange ky which is also surrounded by farms and etc even tho in side city limits its not like we have horse and cattle farms not even 10 mins from my home

We actually ended up moving 30 mins away to a different county where we're able to have farm animals. The county we used to live in was just getting too congested and we also had a lot of drama from one of our neighbors. However, I did hear they changed the ordinance to allow chickens in residential areas after we moved. No roosters are allowed though. It's a start. Hopefully things will continue to change for the better. Good luck and I hope you're able to get some changes made. Maybe try starting a petition to allow roosters for food security?
