how to get rid of snakes?

If you have baby chicks I could be concerned but if you have fully grown birds you would be well served to let it be. They may take an egg or three, but they also eat rats and other posionus snakes. Black,King,Rat snakes are your friend.

Now if you have chicks and can't keep them secure from your slithering friends...you may want to consider relocation but please don't take a hoe to him.

Most likely either a black ratsnake, it may have been after chicken eggs, but more likely after mice and small rats.

Our cats leave the chickens alone now. THey also take care of the rodents. But they are really slacking in the snake dept. Found a large black snake on the roosting box this morning. Bout gave me a heart attack. We didn't have eggs for a while, and I think its the snake/s. Don't know what we're gonna do yet.

I'm sorry but if you have a prize chicken anda snake keeps killing you best hens and bitties then it has got to go. There is not a shortage of rat snakes.
