How to get the hen to lay in the boxes.

Hey guys my hen laid her first egg for me today, but on the ground

not in the hen boxes I spent HOURS building! My question is -how do I convince her to lay them in hen boxes (that have a roof I can raise to easily access the eggs? Thanks!

This is very common in new layers. To encourage her (and other new layers) to lay in the nest box, place some golf balls (or any other egg looking object) in the nest box. This should encourage her to lay where she is suppose to.

I have wooden eggs in each of my boxes, helps a lot when they first start, and later they use more of the boxes instead of all trying to cram into the one where the first egg of the day has been layed
