I have 4 chicks being raised by a broody hen. They have been with me for two weeks now, so they are probably about 2 1/2 weeks old. Every night, the momma hen tries to get them to go inside the coop, but they always stay out in the run. They never follow her. So, the hen just builds a little nest outside and the chicks go under her.
Since I don't want them sleeping out in the run, I always lift the babies inside with the mom. I have been doing this for two weeks.
A week ago, almost all the chicks followed the mom inside when I lifted her up, and I thought they had finally understood what they had to do, but they haven't done that since.
Should I just keep lifting them inside every night? Or is there something else I should be doing?
Thanks!

My chicks were raised by me but it seems to be the same thing. I had been putting my chicks to bed for 2 weeks and they wouldn’t go by themselves! Yesterday, I ended up just putting their food in their coop so that they had to go to the coop to eat and that seemed to teach them where their “home” is because they went up and went to sleep in their coop yesterday! I am waiting to see if they will when it gets dark today because I moved their food back out to the run but I am crossing my fingers!

I raised 3 chicks until they were about 7 weeks old, then put them outside with a lone hen. On the fifth night, they all went into the coop with her for the night and ever since then they went in.

Tonight I had a half success. The mom hen went inside, and 3 of the chicks followed her. Only one needed some extra help. Hopefully it won't be much longer until they all go in on their own!
