how to hang a waterer

Is there a way to hang a waterer that doesn't have a designated place to hang. I have one of the red and white 1 gal. waterers and I don't know how to hang it. My hens always knock it off the platform

We did hang one once, we cut a piece of 3/4 inch plywood in a circle about an inch larger then the waterer. then attached three small chains to it they were about two foot long. where all three of these meet we attached on longer chain to go up to the ceiling of the coop.
