Upgrading to a larger coop and thinking about using roll-out nest boxes in my new coop, but I want my hens to still be able to go broody. I'm thinking maybe keep one nest box non-rollout, but blocking it off until they're used to the new boxes. Maybe unblock and put fake eggs in the regular box in a few weeks, see if any of the hens are interested in sitting.

Has anyone had success with this - and how? Thanks!

I have roll-out nest boxes, but not by choice. They are what we had laying around. I put a piece of tar paper on the bottom of the nest box, then stuffed straw in the place where the eggs collect when they roll out. Then you can put your fake eggs in the nest box. I chose tar paper because of its durability but you could use cardboard, plywood, etc.
