On the 16th (2 days from now!!!) the local feed store is getting in a variety of Bantams. I really have my heart set on getting 3 Barred Cochin Bantam chicks. I have been trying to look at photos online but I keep ending up with such a variety of photos of different birds. Does anyone have photos of their chicks -or others- that you know for certain to be Barred?
-OR if you have photos of different bantam chicks and can positively ID each one that would help me too. If they don't get the ones I want that will help me select from the other breeds.
-I know to look for the leg feathers but will they have them at a day or 2 old? Does this trait develop that early or will it not appear until later?
-How would I tell the difference between a chick that will be black and one that will be barred? I am very new to all of this and am very excited.
I have (3) 6 week old Barred Rocks and I remember they were black with a white spot on their head. It was pretty easy to pick them out though, they were the last 3 they had and they were mixed in with some yellow chicks. This time it's going to be a mix of Bantams from Privett so this might require some skill.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
