Hi -

Have had chickens for 4 years but new to ducks ...

We had two mallards that are 8 weeks old and one died on Saturday. The remaining mallard was calling for her buddy like crazy all the time. The mallards have been raised with four baby chicks.

Our bright idea was to get more ducks so the mallard would not be alone. So off to the feed store yesterday we got two baby white pekin ducklings. On the advice of feed store lady, we separated the mallard from the chicks and introduced her to the new ducklings after rubbing them with her scent. This did not go as we hoped it would and the mallard was very, very aggressive and we were unable to leave her with the ducklings.

Wondering if we now just wait for the ducklings to get bigger and then introduce to the whole flock including the mallard?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm currently in the process of introducing my 2 week olds to my 6 week olds so I put the brooder right next to the adults nighttime pen with hardware cloth attached to wood frame in between the two pens so they can get used to each other safely. It seems to be working well, I'll get the ducklings out to see the big ducks and everyone is getting along well.
