I am getting a jubilee Orpington rooster and worrying that they won't be protective enough for my hens dice we have lots of predators. That being said, I want to get another rooster. I have 2 separate coops next to each other and to separate runs next to each other and I was think 1 roo per coop. When I let them free rang I don't want the rooster attacking each other.

1. How to introduce roosters.

2. Do they have to meet as younger roosters (before hormones start raging)?

They will fight. That being said, I've done it, usually without any real injuries, just hurt pride. It helps if neither has been with the hens(better if they haven't even seen them) before they meet and work out who is going to be dominant. After you give them a chance to work it out, they will stop fighting. I don't think I've ever had it work out if one quick (somewhat brutal) fight didn't do the job. I would have a hose or towel on hand in case it doesn't work. I don't interfere unless they get cornered or I decide it isn't going to work. I prefer to not play chicken nurse and I'm sure the roosters prefer I don't have to.
Oh and make sure their spurs are blunt!
Any chance you can get a second rooster that has already been in with the one you are getting?

The jubilee orp will have already met 1 hen as I am wetting a pair. I haven't yet gotten the other but I am liking into an Iowa blue roo.

Generally, introducing adult cocks to each other won't go well. If possible, raise the cockrels together, or keep adults separate. I've had as many as six males together in the flock, with no problems, but that's not likely with birds who just met. Are you breeding different groups? Do you really need more males? Depending on them for predator protection is fantasy. Mary

I
I believe it's the same got bantams. Bantams are just like any other chicken except they are smaller.
thanks my grandfather always had chickens of all kinds this is my first time being a chicken farmer lol I was real worried about my Bantam roosters I would like to keep one of each of my breeds everybody on this site has been a big help thanks a lot

I have two flocks right now (one ~5 hens, the other ~10). They all mostly grew up together and were coexisting well before we had a "massacre"... Something got about a dozen of them over the course of a couple of days and that's when I locked them in the coop. That was a couple of months ago (2-3 months?). Trying to take advantage of the situation, I separated the two roosters into different coops and matched them with hens whose eggs I would like to hatch (24 in the bator now!!).
Here's the dilemma: I am getting my fence fortified this week so I will be able to let them back outside the coop. I am worried about the two roosters fighting... What is the potential outcome of this and what is the best approach for a successful outcome??
Thanks!!
