How to keep the duck coop/food area dry and clean?

We recently adopted 2 adult ducks but they are extremely messy. I know that ducks are messy by nature, but I can't even let those 2 alone with a small pool without them making a big mess. They are currently living next to our chickens which means that the ground is like soil/earth(not sure what's the exact word in English) and it gets really muddy when they spill water on it. These days it's also raining quite a lot and even their food gets hella wet and on top of that the next day they have to step on the wet soil/mud. They do have a place to sleep in which has hay so they can lay down comfortably and I change it once every week because it stays pretty clean for some reason. My question is, what can I do so they don't always spill the water on the ground, making mud? I've been thinking about different types of "bedding" or shavings but I don't even want to imagine what would it look like after they decide to spill water everywhere.
PS: Any tips on how to keep the food dry when it rains? Should I move both the water and food IN their little house?

they are going to be one heck of a mess, I plan to use washed screened stone around my pond in an effort to avoid some mud, I am avoiding crushed as they pick at it and I am recently concerned with what is in the crushed stone available locally, do think about their little duck feet though, choose something they can walk on, I wouldn't want to walk across something really ugly barefoot.

Where do you live? Are you keeping your food and water inside their pen where they sleep? I can help you with a pool set up that won't be such a mess but I need to see maybe a picture of where the little ones are now.
