I want to make a poop board with PDZ that will be under my roost. I would like this to somehow be off the floor 15". Does anyone have some suggestions on what materials I need? Do I just get a 24" wide piece of plywood and attach 1x3s around the edges to hold in the PDZ? I assume you then just screw this to the wall to attach it with some supports underneath to help it stay level? Does the roost attach to this or does it usually get attached separately to the wall?

Thanks for any advice!
Jenn

Sounds like you got the idea, the roost does not need to be attached .... My poop board was an after thought, hadn't read about it until after the construction of my enclosure...
It's attached to the corner frame posts, the roost is attached to the roof frame. Poop board has made cleaning so very easy :thumbsup

Here's mine--added poop board after when I had an idea of poop logistical issues. The top perch I can scoop without lifting perch. The bottom perch I just lift up enough to fit my kitty litter scoop under. I just used regular shelf brackets to hold them up.

Just wood screws. There's a tiny gap that pdz sifts through, so you may want to caulk if that matters to you. I just replenish the sand/pdz from the coop floor anyway so I don't mind.

How deep does the PDZ need to be in order to be non-disgusting? Or at least minimally disgusting :)
Depends on how often you plan to sift it.
I keep the PDZ under a half inch deep, any deeper and they start scratching and dust bathing in it and flinging it all over the place. I sift poops out every day or two.

My board is 3/16 laun, with 2x2 sides screwed on from underneath, and lined with vinyl.
It sits on braces and tacked down with a couple screws thru back edge into wall studs.
Roost is screwed to sides from underneath.

Here it is new, should get some 4 year olds pics too.
