Hey y'all! Go check out A Chick Called Albert's I Hatched an Egg with my Body if you haven't already. Anyways, I am going to try to do the same with one of my own Pekin duck eggs! If you don't feel like watching the video, it's pretty much an empty duct tape roll filled in with some styrofoam like thing, with a piece of cloth on top. It didn't get warm enough for him so then he added an insulation blanket around it and foam paper on the bottom.
Mine is similar, but I didn't have all of those things at home and I didn't go out to buy them because then what's the point of a DIY incubator? My version is an empty and cleaned out strawberry cream cheese container with a hole cut out of the lid. Then I lined the inside with a layer or two of foil, a layer of pillow stuffing, then another layer of foil and a piece of felt on top of all that. There's also a handful of loose stuffing to hold the egg in place and hopefully keep it a bit warmer. I made a little loop out of tape that I can fit a belt through and then I wrap it around my stomach and ta da!
It takes a while to get warm, about an hour actually. At least that's what my calibrated hygrometer says. My only problem is it's not getting warm enough! My belly incubator has been stable around 94 degrees F and it's not seeming to get any warmer. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it warmer? (And get warmer quicker, if possible.) I'm sure someone has tried this before! Or maybe something similar? Or maybe you just have an idea on how to get it warmer? Any advice will help! I appreciate it, thanks guys!
I will add pictures of my incubator ASAP! (It ain't pretty though!)
