Hopefully all my golden commets will be hens, so Im going to have to build a coop. Also im getting about 3-4 rhode island reds.

How big of coop do I need? for a small run and the laying boxes.

Also how to I make laying boxes for them to lay eggs in?

Thanks

~Bryan

Most people go with 4 square feet of coop floor per chicken and 10 foot run space for each bird if you are not going to free range them at all. As for laying boxes they need to be at least 12 inches X 12 inches X 12 inches BUT if you use the search option in the navigation bar here on the forum and search for laying boxes you will find that tons of people use all kinds of different things. I have seen people that used laundry baskets, plastic storage bins, shoe boxes, 5 gallon buckets....the ideas here on BYC are endless.

Good Luck to you and welcome!!
