I am getting a drake tomorrow for my female duck and i don’t know how I should move him into the pen with her. She is currently in the chicken pen but when i get him i’m going to put both in the duck pen. How should i move him? Will he hurt her? They are welsh harlequins.

You be better off letting them meet with fencing in between are your pens close so they can see each other. Put him in the duck pen leave her in the chicken pen for a few days for meet an greet.
I have a “brooder”. It’s a cage we use for older chicks. It’s in the chicken pen but locked off. Maybe I can put him in there and just let my female hang out below him.

That may work after he’s been there a few days try them together. With supervision. I hope you’ll consider a few more females too. The drakes can be awfully rough on just one female during breeding season.
Well with this whole Coronavirus thing going on it’s hard to order ducklings online and they’re expensive. I had two females and one died just recently. I hope he’s a gentle one especially with ducklings because that’s how i’m going to get more ducks.

Your going to hatch is that what you mean? Drake can be pretty hard to know when it comes to ducklings they’ve been known to kill them. It’s always a good idea to separate a mama duck and her duckling for a couple weeks to give dad a chance to accept them and even then when you let them all be together they will have to have supervision. Mama will not protect them from a drake.

I've integrated many drakes with no problems, but it partly depends on your setup and the drakes personality, If you want to go a safer approach do as @Miss Lydia suggested and separate them from each other for a few days so they can get used to each other without being able to attack each other or if you'd like you could immediately put them together and see if they get along, if they do then great!

I moved him in with her. At first he tried to attack her and she tried to escape but now they don’t attack. They do distance their self’s. She went swimming and he just washed himself from being on the outside of the pool. I hope they grow on each other. I guess he’s upset that he got taken away from his family.
