As a first time farmer new to this chicken party, I just wanted to say howdy! 🤠 I am a self-proclaimed chicken enthusiast. I read about chickens in my free time as well as it being a full time job.

Originally I wanted an aloof duel purpose breed because I wasn't sure what I wanted from being a chicken farmer. Now that I have them I know I want a little bit of everything. My friendly breed is fine, but I'd also like a docile breed as a pet. That's when I discovered Faverolles!

After doing some digging I found out the effects shipping can have on your chicks.
So I placed an order to pick these little buggers up. I don't mind the 2 1/2 hour drive, but I can't speak for the babies. I'd like to fill in the role of being mamma bird, so I'd like to acquaint myself with them while they're just a day old.

My question is: how should I prepare for these girls on their first long trek?

Good morning & welcome to BYC. I've picked up my chicks from a hatchery at about that same distance. I took along some hand warmers and an old, very thin towel. When the chicks started chirping I opened a couple and and placed them in the bottom of the box and covered them with the towel. We got home fine. No losses and no pasty butt.

That's awesome! I do have some extra hand warmers from the winter so that should work fine! And thank you for the welcome
