What is the right way to remove the poop that is built up around the vent? We got some chicks that have buildup. Thanks

Warm water. Sometimes you can put their butt under the faucet - or you can hold their back sides in a container of warm water until it comes loose.

Often, the poop will stop sticking if you put some vaseline or something else greasy over the area where it was sticking after it's clean.

I got a dish of warm water, dipped a paper towel into the water, and then gently wiped until the dried poo softened enough so that it came off. You can also use a q-tip dipped in water. You do have to be careful not to pull the feathers or the tissues.

I always just run their butt under warm running water at the sink

I second the vaseline thing...
