How to rid my yard of flies?

Do you use DE in your hen's food? Although I use it in my coop, I have not yet mixed it in my chicken's food so I don't know if the following statement I found online is true:

"Internal feeding of food grade diatomaceous earth helps eliminate most internal worms, though possibly not all. It's also excellent when fed daily to keep down fly loads, since food grade diatomaceous earth is eliminated from the body, exactly the way it went in, it helps reduce the manure odor and kills flies that come in contact with it."

Anyone out there seen a decrease in flies while using DE?

I wouldn't recommend sevin dust, it contains carbaryl which is toxic to humans and is carcinogen. I don't belive it's safe for chickens.
There are other ways to get rid of flies that are safer.

I just heard heard today about using garlic all over the yard to keep flies away. Apparently you can buy a garlic mix at Tractor Supply, Agway, and such, though it can be expensive. My friend claims it works well.

You can also buy these bags that have a little yellow stopper in the top. There is some really nasty smelling stuff(think ripe manure) in the bag that once you fill it with water starts to stink and attract the flies. They can only enter through the yellow stopper and get stuck in the bag. We hang 3 or 4 around the house and have very few if any house flies. We have to change them about 1/2way though the summer as they get totally filled with flies. Essentially once the fly population creeps back up again it is time to buy new bags.

Without the bags we litterally have hundreds of flies buzzing around the house....with them we have zero.

One thing to note is to not put the bags near any windows as you will get the smell coming in if the wind blows just right. It took us about 2 weeks to figure that one out and just kept blaming the dog thinking she was passing gas.
