How to set temperature on a hot water thermostat?

I bought a homemade incubator from someone that made it out of the styrofoam sheets from homedepot and a HWT. He even showed us it running and it stayed steady at 99.2-100.8, if it would get higher the bulb would turn off on its own and come back on at 99.5 Some time on the way home the thermostat came loose in the incubator and now I cant get it right, keeps bouncing from 100-106 degrees. I was told to just "adjust" it well how the heck do you freaking adjust it without any knobs or anything to turn on the dang thing

Is the thermostat mounted in the same spot as it started?

no it isnt, it was taped to the bottom of the incubator and the tape came loose, i cant tell where the tape was either and dont remember where exactly it was, but the link you posted helped and i will just keep playing around measuring till i get it right
