I posted on the Hamburg thread a few days ago, but no one will acknowledge me....

I picked up 7 Silver Spangled Hamburg chicks from a chicken auction last weekend.
They are about 10 days old.
I can't keep all 7, I want to pick out the 3 that are most likely females.
How can you determine sex on this breed, I'm not familiar with them?

In my searching online I saw they have different colorations, but it didn't say which was male and which was female.
I also saw they're supposed to have tinted legs, but didn't know if that was all SSH's or just one sex.
At this age, all have the same size legs, feet, comb.
I guess they could have given me all males?

Any insight would really be appreciated because I need to get rid of 4 of them this afternoon and want to have the best chance of ending up with some females.

THANKS!!!

PS- some of mine are mostly black and some are mostly white.

I've only got 1 little hamburg but I'm guessing mine is going to be a roo since it's comb is already flushing red. He's only bout 3 weeks old but the red started 4 or more days ago. I heard that the roos of most breeds will have redder combs before the pullets. Don't take my word on it because I am no expert by any means! I think that since you've got 7, you could compare combs and see if some are red and some aren't maybe. I don't know anything about the leg colors though. Mine has slate colored legs. I think males are supposed to have pointed saddle/hackle feathers and the pullets more rounded. But they;'re probably too young for that to be noticeable. Here's a pic of him maybe it helps for comparison? I think it's going to be a pop shot though with them being so young still.
Sorry you couldn't get a response from someone that knows more about them! Good luck!
( I tried to get a good shot of the red comb but he wouldn't hold still! Too curious and wanted to sit in my hand!Freindly little thing tho! :) )

Hi, I had a couple of these, and the roos were lighter especially around the head. I'll try and post a pic of my pair

The lighter one is the roo on the left
